Welcome to Central NY Job Trends

We are living in unprecedented times with the crisis in the financial and housing sectors, huge deficit spending, and a two front war. However, two things remain constant: the need for hard working, skilled labor and employees looking to improve their careers.

Even in those industries most affected by the current turmoil, there continues to exist a talent shortage. Outside of these areas where growth is still very strong, this need is even greater. Some of the sectors that will continue to struggle meeting their employment requirements include engineering, healthcare, utilities, and transportation. Attracting and retaining top professionals will take a significant amount of time and creativity. Unless the hiring needs are met, many of these companies will be forced to put off expansion and lose lucrative contracts.

Candidates entertaining a career change will continue to be very selective. Clients must realize this. They are competing for a small pool of talented individuals. Keeping the hiring cycle short, having an attractive marketing plan, and being effective communicators with both candidates and recruiters will greatly increase the chance of successfully landing the next allstar. Candidates need to be aware of the hiring process. Setting appropriate expectations lessens the chance of turning down what could have been an incredible opportunity.

In summary, the current job market is much better than most think. While certain sectors will continue to struggle, the need for talent in many industries is still very great. We will weather the current economic storm and be stronger because of it.

All the best,
